Panic! At The Disco, Fortnite, The Simpsons

Jason Fabus is enjoying a wonderful journey as a highly sought after saxophonist in southern California.  This Milwaukee native is the leader of several groups, including the Jason Fabus Trio and Fabus Four which are staples in the Los Angeles jazz & swing scene.

During the summer of 2020, Fabus was asked to record his alto and tenor saxophones and clarinet for the Oscar Award Winning Netflix film Mank.  Recording remotely at home, he used his Vanguard V13 microphone. Jason has also recorded for Panic! At The Disco, Trolls World Tour, Fortnite, The Simpsons, NCIS, Mystery Science Theater 3000, and the Wheel of Fortune TV Theme Song.

On the advice of our good friend Brian Ward, Jason recently picked up the Vanguard V13 Tube Condenser to use for his recordings. Here’s his thoughts on the V13 as a sax mic:

As a saxophonist, I’ll admit that I’ve gotten very picky over the years with building my sound.  My V13 microphone captures it perfectly.  Plenty of breath and bright reedy qualities, while still maintaining a deep and rich bottom end of the horn.  The “figure-eight” pattern also performed wonderfully when we needed to record two saxophones on my latest recording project, “Another Standard”.  Saxophone players, check out this microphone!!!
